Missing, however, is a psychological or sociological analysis of the religious mind and religious behavior to explain why this occurs. Cardinal de la Pole took a step along these lines during the English Reformation. But we are in sore need of scientific study of this phenomenon if we are to make progress toward rooting out religion once and for all.
