Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank sat down with Joanna Coles for an interview in Marie Claire's November issue. The double Oscar winner is about to be seen in 'Amelia' playing Amelia Earhart.

In case you're wondering, she has no problem in her personal life with nudity, even in front of her boyfriend's child.

JC: What do you sleep in?

HS: I don't sleep in anything. Do you sleep in a nightgown?

JC: I sleep in pj's. I have two young sons, so I have to be conscious of that.

HS: Well, my boyfriend's son is 6 years old, and you wonder at what age you should stop walking around nude. Every morning he comes into the bedroom, and you're just nude. But he doesn't look twice; he doesn't think about it yet. I just toss and turn too much when I sleep, and if I'm in clothes, I get all twisted up.

Swank, divorced from Chad Lowe, is now dating agent Jon Campisi.

Being naked is American taboo. When a child is raised in a home where they are used to seeing their family members or in this case dad's girlfriend naked, the kids don't think twice about it. On the other hand when I was a kid I walked into my friends bathroom when his mom was toweling off after a shower, she shrieked in horror and quickly began to cover up. It seemed to me at that age that she was hiding something like she or I had done something wrong. Sad for us.

I doubt she really said that. Marie Claire magazine lies to get reader's attention and to sell magazines.

I knew that this story about being comfortable in our bodies would get the puritan police out in full force.

"Ooooooo. This kid will be scared for life."

The responses on this subject are exhibit A in the case against American's ever being allowed to vote.

no excuses. none, period.

there is nothing natural and normal about this.

Watchout there, your on your way to getting called 'ignorant'. But i agree tho--there's nothing "normal" about it, despite the general delusion on here; and who's to rule out 'perversion', we're not 'mindreaders'.

Being nude is actually the most natural thing in the world. Kids only have a problem with it when they're TAUGHT to have a problem with it.
Puritan nonsense.

And so is being arroused and sexually turned on in the presence of a nude body. But yet people on your side still TEACH otherwise. Nudist nonsense.

I agree with the posters who are saying that it's not her child. If it were a man doing this, you could bet that the birth father would be going after the boyfriend as a child predator.

And I see nothing wrong with our "uptight" attitude in America. I don't want to see my naked mother or father.

Hilary Swank is not naked in front of her boyfriend's son. She's wearing the birthday suit that her CREATOR gave her!!! :) Where's the Church Lady when you need her? Well, isn't that SPECIAL!!!! Oh, the ORIGINAL SIN of it all.

In America it is bad to show the naked body to children, whereas it is totally natural in the most other parts of the world. WHY IS THAT?????

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:11 AM on 10/13/2009

I'm sure the boys mother must be soooo happy about this

Because that is a bunch of America bashing baloney. Most parts of the world? Right.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:29 AM on 10/13/2009

There is some truth to this...I can't speak for "most parts of the world" but I have just spent the second summer in a row working in Spain. On the beaches there, it is not unusual to see entire families naked, men, women, children, grandparents even. Is it "America-bashing" to state that, in terms of sexuality, this country is very much still like a pubescent teenager, that nudity and sexuality aren't really embraced in a mature and thoughtful way, but rather still treated as commodities to be bought and sold, in all forms of media? Lenny Bruce summed it up quite well, some time ago, when he said (and I'm paraphrasing here) "When you come home and you look out your window and see a naked woman in the apartment across the way, your natural inclination is to look. But in this country, they expect you tp pull down the shade, then charge your buddies $5 each for a peek."

Because very few Americans are capable of independent thinking.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:51 PM on 10/13/2009

Oh so being nude in front of people who are not related to you is classified as "thinking independantly", ha. You ppl really do think nudity is some transcendental 'movement' don't'cha? And for the record, the person you are replying to just said that "most of the world" is already rather nonchalant about nudity...so wouldn't that mean we, Americans, are the 'independant thinkers'...? Think about that.

Don't judge us all based on the opinions of Shallow J and their ilk. They may be many, but they are losing their battles throughout the country.

Not only is her behavior (slightly) objectionable but now i have to live with the mental image of a naked Hillary Swank! Why couldn't this story have been about Kim Kardashian instead?

BFD.
If one of the boys parents have a problem they should act accordingly.
This is such a non-story.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's a family's decision. I sleep naked, though at about 3 years old I stopped letting my son see me naked. And that was my choice. I don't teach him that it's something to be ashamed of, but I don't want my young child thinking it's ok to be naked around adults or that it's ok for other adults to be naked around him--too many pedophiles in the world.

And that is my prerogative. It is no one's place to judge Ms. Swank for this. Let's move on to important things that impact all our lives.

The main issue here is that THIS IS NOT HER CHILD! Parents have a right to know about and decide how much they want their children to be exposed to and at what age. She is not the parent. The child's mom should have a say in this. And I bet what she'd say is, "Keep your clothes on, lady. My child is not one of your fans."

Where in the article does it say the child's mom doesn't know? It's their prerogative how to raise the child, just as it is your prerogative how to raise your own. That's one of the things that makes this a great country.
