These are marginal notes indexed to specific texts. They serve to support, with respect to individual writers and their arguments and statements, more general claims I make elsewhere. It goes without saying that some writer may have changed his or her opinion in some other locus of which I am unaware, or, if living, may yet revise what had been said. Therefore, any criticism or praise I might have is directed only to the cited texts.

Many of the authors and works are cited just for footnote and bibliographical purposes. In this respect I have deviated from standard usage by citing the edition I actually used rather than any canonical edition. In this way an interested reader can find page references more easily. Also if I happen to rely on a faulty printing or mistranslation the source of the error can be tracked down with greater facility.
